Non-Industrial Private Landowners > Forest Resources Inventory

cruising timber for an inventoryBefore you can plan, you need to know what you have to plan with. A Forest Resources Inventory will determine exactly what resources you have on your land.

Not all inventories are created equal, though. After working with you to establish your goals and needs, we will design a custom inventory plan to gather exactly the data you need to move forward. An inventory can include any or all of the following kinds of information:

  • Forest and Stand Descriptions: types, relative amounts, and quality of trees and flora on your property
  • Timber Volume and Value: Using statistical sampling, we will survey and measure the types, quality, and quantity of marketable timber on your property.
  • Wildlife Habitat: We can observe and record the types of wildlife currently using your property and assess the types of potential habitat available
  • Vegetation
  • Endangered species
  • Water Resources
  • Archaeological, historical, and cultural resources
  • Pest assessment
  • Disease assessment

In each case, we'll design the inventory (including what data to collect and what level of sampling to use) based on your specific needs. For example, a state stewardship plan may require only general estimates of timber volume, while a timber sale requires more accurate volume data by tree produce and species along with a detailed field map, and an inventory for tax assessment purposes, the inventory would include growth estimates.

Once we gather the data, we will analyze and provide you with printed reports; we can also provide the data and results electronically in a format compatible with GIS or other database system.
