Forest Management for Non-industrial Private Landowners

As a landowner, you may have a variety of different goals for your property - creating wildlife habitat, selling your timber to generate income, passing your property on to your children, and more. Our job is to help you achieve those goals by listening to you, evaluating your forest resources, and developing and implementing a plan. Our services include:

  • Forest Resources Inventory - Our foresters will walk your property and gather data to determine exactly what you have to work with. We can assess timber value, wildlife habitat, water resources, native plants, non-timber forest products such as ginseng or wild mushrooms, and more, depending on your goals.

  • Forest Resource Mapping - After gathering data, we can create a series of maps that not only provide a "picture" of your property, but help us together decide how to best manage your land.

  • Forest and Wildlife Management Plans - In addition to telling you what you have through a forest resources inventory, our foresters can work with you to understand your goals and develop a management plan to help you meet them. Whether you want to increase grouse habitat or sell timber to send your children to college, we will work with you to design a plan that effectively addresses your goals. In addition, if you're interested in a conservation easement or similar designation to protect your land, our foresters can work with you through the process.

  • Forest Product Sales - If you want to sell your timber or other forest products, we can help market the product, lay out roads, gather and evaluate bids, lay out roads, and supervise the logging operation to insure that you get what you need from your sale and your forest land is properly cared for before, during, and after the process.

  • Forest Management Activities - Even if you don't want to sell your forest products, we can help effectively implement plans for your property with maintenance services such as marking boundary lines, checking for timber trespasses, or inspecting for pests/diseases; treatment services such as improving timber stand or seeding open areas or roads; and road/trail layout and maintenance.

  • Certification Services - For landowners with larger tracts of land who are interested in selling "certified timber," we can provide the planning and documentation needed to pursue third-party certification, and help guide you through the process

  • Site Evaluation & Land-Use Recommendations - Many landowners have property that includes more than woodland. Given today's land prices, you need to to evaluate your property carefully before deciding where to produce timber, enhance wildlife habitat, convert land to pasture or farmland, or develop land for housing. Our professionals perform topographic inspections and soil-productivity interpretation, then combine that information with site-type and property-boundary mapping to provide the information necessary in making wise land-use planning decisions.

  • Education Workshops: One of our primary goals as a company is to transfer our knowledge to our clients and associates because we believe that the more you understand about forests and forestry, the more effectively you will be able to make decisions about land use. We are available to teach community-based workshops on a variety of issues including currently available landowner-incentive programs, cooperative forest management between neighboring landowners, and the values of planned forest management.
