Whether you hope to generate income over the long term or simply sell
your timber or other forest products once, we can help you through the
entire process with an array of services:
-
Inventory - through a Forest Resources
Inventory we determine the volume and quality of the marketable
timber or other forest products on your property, then combine those
numbers with a current market analysis to approximate the dollar value
of your product.
-
Timber
and boundary marking - For timber sales, if the best option for
you is to cut and sell only selected trees (rather than conduct a
clearcut), we will mark either the trees to leave uncut or the trees
to sell, depending on the sale. Even if you're not conducting a marked
sale, we will clearly mark the sale and property boundaries to insure
that the logger cuts only the trees you want cut.
-
Road layout - For a timber sale or any other sale involving
heavy equipment moving through your forest, we can lay out road and
trail locations so that both you and the potential buyers know and
understand any constraints involved.
-
Product marketing - Once we know the value of your products
and have prepared the site (i.e. marked trees, laid out roads), we
can prepare a bid prospectus describing the timber, advertise the
sale, and speak with potential customers (loggers if you are selling
timber). We can sell your products through a sealed open bid (i.e.
anyone interested can make an offer) or through negotiations with
specific individuals; in either case, our concern is to insure that
you get maximum value, while at the same protecting your resources
for intended future uses.
-
Contracts - Once we have a buyer, we can draw up an appropriate
contract that, above all, protects you and your property and obligates
the buyer to abide by not only legal requirements, but any other stipulations
you or we consider appropriate for this harvest.
-
Sale
oversight - With the signed contract in place, we can monitor every
phase of the harvest operation to insure that your buyer complies with
all the terms of the contract. Working with your state's Department
of Forestry or comparable office, we will monitor the operation to make
sure it meets all legal requirements and complies with the state's Best
Management Practices. For details on Virginia's laws and BMPs, visit
the VDOF web site.
